I think it is so sad that mitochondrial diseases are so devastating, yet so few people are aware of them. Drug companies don't do research into new drugs for these diseases because not enough people are affected so they can't profit enough. Please help find a cure by donating to the organization that DOES care to help these children! I apologize if this post offends anyone.
As most of you are aware, Piper suffers from a devastating mitochondrial disorder called Leigh's Syndrome. This Saturday, our family will be participating in an event to help raise money for a cure. The Kure for Kat will be held on October 9, 2010 at South Lakes Park in Denton, Texas. Participate to experience a family-friendly morning with free refreshments, entertainment for the kids and much, much more!
Every 30 minutes a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by age 10. Right now, there are no known cures for mitochondrial disease. Due to the devastating effects of mitochondrial disease on key body parts such as the brain, muscles, heart, and lungs, many children will not survive their teenage years.
Is there hope? The answer is a resounding YES! We are inspired by your love and friendship, by your concern and support, and by your participation in helping us raise money to continue funding very necessary research that takes us one step closer to a cure for mitochondrial disease.
