Well, the babies have had their first full day in the NICU. Gracie has been extubate (tube taken out of her throat) and is now on CPAP with her brother and sister. Joel is having to work a little harder to breath tonight, but they are keeping a close eye on him. Little Ella- is just as content as she can be. She is very calm and patient. Whereas, Joel and little Gracie- have been upset and fussy this evening. We know they are in wonderful hands and we can not thank you enough for your prayers.
It's now 22:56- we just spoke to the NICU and changes are taking place quickly. Little Ella and Sweet Gracie are coming off CPAP and will be put on just a simple nasal cannula. While Joel is still struggling. They are in the process of intubating him now and going to give him surfactant. Surfactant is a special substance that helps the aveoli in the lungs stay open and improves gas exchange. Gracie got surfactant this morning (and it made a HUGE difference- as you can tell). They anticpate Joel going straight back on CPAP after the surfactant is given- and do not expect him to be intubated for long. I'm very happy that they decided to go a head and give him the surfactant! As I do feel it will really help this sweet little boy breath easier!
Ella is 2lb 14oz 15 inches long
Joel is 3lb 5oz 15 1/2 inches long
Grace is 3lbs 1oz 15 1/4 inches long
