Day 19

Joel is now 3 lbs 15.1 oz ... he'll be our first four-pound baby! Gracie is now in a neck-and-neck race with her sister for 2nd place (she's 3 lbs 11.6 oz and Ella Bella is 3 lbs 10.2 oz).

The doctors have begun to kick around the idea of giving Ella caffeine. During the last week or so, she's been having brief episodes of bradycardia (her heart rate will drop quickly) and apnea (she will forget to breathe). These episodes only last a few seconds, and then she "snaps out of it". The question at hand is whether these events are incidental or systemic. It is not abnormal for babies our age to manifest these symptoms, and it is anticipated that she'll grow out of it quickly. My theory is that Ella is just angling for some "daddy orange juice" (this is what Jade calls his Diet Sunkist Orange Soda, which is caffeinated).

Both Ella and Grace did very well after their baths today... the nurses are planning on helping them with their prison break tomorrow (out of the frying pan and into the fire ... out of the isolette and into the crib).

Should this occur, we will certainly post photos!
